Section 1. The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed.
Section 2. The transportation or importation into any State, Territory, or possession of the United States for delivery or use therein of intoxicating liquors, in violation of the laws thereof, is hereby prohibited.

The twenty-first amendment repealed prohibition, after lasting 24 years. The movement to repeal prohibition grew so strong that it led to the only amendment to be ratified by conventions held in the states. I'm not suprised that the eighteenth amendment was repealed but I am suprised that it took nearly a quarter of a century to do it. You would think with growing economic incentives prohibition would have ended much sooner.

This protest is an excellent example of the type of grassroots movements that caused prohibition to be repealed. I find it interesting that the picture is of women protesting because the temperance movement which proded prohibition was led by women.

I really like that this is an actual newspaper printed in New York. It like so many other newspapers in big cities hit presses and declared the end of prohibiton. The newspaper printed a picture of men protesting carrying the same signs as the women in the picture above, and the article celebrated prohibition's repeal.

Section 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by conventions in the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.
